SION

Welcome to Sion, capital of the Valais! Dominated by its two emblematic castles, Valère and Tourbillon, the Valais capital stands out for its friendliness and rich heritage. The site has been inhabited for more than 7,000 years and plays a major role in European prehistory. With its narrow streets, the medieval old town is one of the liveliest in Switzerland, with dozens of shops, restaurants and terraces where you can soak up the sun all year round. The Friday market on the Grand-Pont attracts visitors from all over French-speaking Switzerland. As the economic engine of central Valais, Sion is committed to education, research and innovation. To the south of the station, the Energypolis Campus brings together students and researchers from all over the world on the same site.

The town is surrounded by unspoilt natural sites, such as the small Lac de Montorge overlooked by the ruins of a medieval castle, or the bourgeois domain of Les Iles. Sion is also the second-largest wine-growing commune in the Valais. Take a stroll along the Bisse de Clavau and discover the spectacular terraced vineyards, supported by dry stone walls that are sometimes more than a century old.
