4 days before the Grand Raid BCVS 😍
Here we are! 😍😍
A final checklist item. The weather will be ideal, so all the indicators are green for a good performance on Saturday. ✅
From a training point of view, there’s no room for manoeuvre. You’re in good shape, this last week is light and will enable you to reach your peak on Saturday. One or two short outings on the program, an interval outing on Wednesday, an “unblocking” on Friday.
In terms of diet, an increase in carbohydrates is recommended from Thursday onwards, known as “carboloading”. During the race, nutrition is also very important, and carbohydrate intake must be regular. Aim for 60 to 80 grams per hour for a long-term effort. The elites will easily surpass these quantities, but it takes a little experience. #trainthegut. If you have no assistance on the course, the race refreshments will be sufficient. Water bottles or isotonic drinks, bars or gels, everything is optimized for the participant’s comfort.
Don’t forget to bring a repair kit. Most of them ride in tubless, which eliminates the risk of a pinch puncture. A puncture would be unlucky, but possible. An experienced vtteist can repair quickly with wicks, but for the average person, an inner tube and a small pump are still a safe bet. How many of you have ever found yourselves “naked” when hitting a CO2 cartridge, with air escaping everywhere but the inner tube? A multi-tool and you’ve got everything you need. With your ATV out of service, you’ve already eliminated most of the risks. In the event of major problems, you’ll find mechanical stands along the route. Once again, everything is optimized for participant comfort.
And then this little stress, we talk about it? The one that makes you turn 350x in your bed on Friday night. That’s just the way it is. Make sure you get a good night’s rest and then go full throttle on Saturday morning!
This time, we have to go. Enjoy the race. Good effort management, risk control, a pinch of suffering but maximum pleasure.
See you on Saturday!
Arnaud.
